Dec. 31 / 09 - We are looking for volunteers to help man ATA Trials Booth at the Toronto Motorcycle show Jan 15 though 17. Any help would be appreciated. E- mail me for what day and time you would be available and I’ll put a schedule together. A good suggestion at the last meeting was to hopefully get some younger riders out to the booth also to help man it.  bob.billyard@rogers.com

Dec 23 / 09 - 2010 trialsontario.ca - This site is  intended to provide all information on what’s happening and current in Ontario Observed Trials. It has welcomed 17,157 visits in 2009 for an average of 1,430 per month. It combines all modern and vintage events into one schedule. There are sections for new riders to better understand how to get involved in the sport. In addition event results, new and used bikes, sanctioning info, places to ride and practice etc will provide everyone easy access to the basics. The Amateur Trials Association (A.T.A.) has an info section on what initiatives they will be taking on  in 2010 and beyond, we’re looking for good things from this revived club. What we’re most proud of is that “On any Sunday” in the spring, summer and fall of 2010 there is an event happening somewhere in Ontario reaching almost 30 events. What a great co-operative effort by all! A big thumbs up to the Steel City Riders and ATA for hosting the CMA National Championships maintaining a long tradition of selecting Canada’s National Champions and helping select Canada’s Trials des Nations team. Finally, a big thank you to all organizers, checkers and volunteers, with out them where would we be? Well done to all.

Come on out, say hello and enjoy the day.

All the best in 2010 - B Billyard

Nov. 26 / 09

Just want to reiterate my thoughts on my proposed rule change before the Dec. 1 deadline: Anyone can give their comments directly to the CMA in this open process:

1. Brings the CMA more in line with other jurisdictions

2. Reduces the number of lines from 6 to 5, Note: +35 and +45 are separate lines of difficulty from any other line, too often the current intermediate class is ends up being very close or exact to the +35 class which is too hard for many intermediate riders. In the new system every line will require attention.

3. Provides the new / young riders an opportunity to learn from past experts riding their exact lines in the +55 (Junior), then +45 (Intermediate) then +35 (Advanced) class before entering the Expert class.  This will also give riders and the CMA a good benchmark for progression for riders.

4. Addresses the need to have a smoother progression from Junior to Expert.

5. Classic monoshock air-cooled class 1980 to 1998 will hopefully welcome more riders out to events who have bikes sitting in the garage.

6. No requirement for Youth 1 & 2, Single Novice class is all that is required at this time.

7. As the modern trials bike as become more specialized over the years the older experienced riders classes have evolved to suit their needs. It is time to address the young and new riders needs and keep them in the sport.

Oct. 19 / 09 - had a great day at the SWOVT - CVMG Washington trial on Sunday with John Searle and Kevin Cronin. We were on modern bikes as they run a modern class. Sections were great and we tried some tougher lines within the sections laid out. I would say most sections were novice/junior range and when we added in the harder lines it made them in some cases +45.  Next trial is Nov. 1 at Orangeville.
